At Evellon Vintage we are great admirers of the Native American culture. A couple of years ago we've met a Navajo artisan and fell in love with her jewelry collection. Over the years we became friends and together we have decided showing some pieces of her collection here at the shop. Featuring a wonderful necklace made from Juniper berry seeds, white, silver and Turquoise beads. Gorgeous Turquoise pendant, closes with a barrel clasp.

What I've learned form the Navajo about this necklace:
The turquoise has significant symbolism and is believed to add to the healing power of the Juniper berries. To the Navajo, blue is the color of the west on the sacred Medicine Wheel, and is associated with the Bear, who is significant as a healing spirit and an intermediary to the spirit world. The beads are seeds from Juniper Trees collected in Grand Canyon Area on the Navajo Reservation. The juniper seeds are gathered by members of the Navajo Nation in Arizona for the creation of ghost bead jewelry. The people are assisted by Ants, who nibble off one end of the berry and eat the meat. The artisan only needs to punch a hole in the other end to string berries on a cord with colorful beads. The harmony that results from the interconnection of earth, tree, animal and human is believed to ensure tranquility and keep evil spirits away from the wearer. They are worn for protection, tranquility and to ward off evil spirits. The Navajo ghost beads are one of the most enduring traditions of the Navajo. The most straightforward definition of Navajo ghost beads is that they are meant to symbolize the connection between humanity and nature. Wearing these necklaces is supposed to grant an individual peace, protection, and good fortune.
This authentic Navajo necklace was handmade with hermatite tube beads and graduated genuine turquoise heishi. This necklace features a teardrop shaped vintage Zuni handmade Native American Kachina symbol pendant made of mother of pearl, onyx and turquoise. This necklace fastens with a sterling silver lobster clasp. Turquoise is associated with positive healing energy, protection, and expression. Hematite helps to absorb negative energy and calms in times of stress or worry. Hematite is a very protective stone and is great to carry to help you stay grounded in many situations. Mother of pearl helps provide focus of attention. The combination of these vibrant and beautiful gemstones creates a harmonious spiritual balance.

Another sweet authentic Navajo necklace. Ghost Bead necklace made from Juniper berries with colorful beads. Closes with a lobster claw hook. The Navajo feel a strong connection to these seeds. It is believed that they keep away evil spirits and ghost, so wearing them is a form of protection. Wearing juniper berry seeds is also seen as a way of connecting our inner strength with our surroundings. They are a reminder to journey through life with patience, courage and wisdom.
